Lorestan Artifacts

Lorestan (or Luristan), a province in the central Zagros Mountains, has retained a distinctive culture into the modern period, as illustrated by the Lorestani language. Lor society was traditionally pastoral and excelled in a number of crafts, especially textiles and metalworking. The objects below, comprising weapons, pins, and votive objects, represent part of a wide selection of Lor bronzeworking dating to the 1st millennium B.C., now preserved in museums in London, Oxford, Paris, Tehran, and Khorrambad.
