Croesid coin (545 - 520 BC)
Description
These oblong-shaped coins are Achaemenid continuations of a style invented by the legendary Lydian king Croesus. When the Lydians were conquered by Cyrus the Great, he continued operating their mints, using Croesus' currency as his empire's first official money.
